November 15th 2023
Our speaker is Simon Partridge. His title is ‘the history and traditions of Christmas’, HIs talk will however debunk many of our preconceptions of a traditional Christmas. Many of the things we use to celebrate Christmas predate Christianity and the story of Jesus.
Simon is the Director of the How Hill Trust, an environmental study centre in the Norfolk Broads.
In a previous life he was a teacher, which has stood him in good stead over the past 12 years at How Hill. During term time children fill the house with residential courses and day visits. While during the holidays and weekends various courses are offered for adults.
In his spare time he gives talks to an eclectic range of groups.
February 21st 2024
Our speaker is Andy Hutcheson. Andy was one of the leaders of the excavation in 2022 and so brings an unrivalled expertise to the topic.
March 20th 2024
Our speaker is Peter Gudrun who describes himself as a Norwich man. He has had a successful career in advertising agencies, working on national and international campaigns. He now works as an advertising writer and consultant.
Peter is also a successful author. He was commissioned to research and write ‘Jarrold 250 Years: A History’. The book was published to celebrate the anniversary of the company and it is that book Pete will be talking about.
April 17th 2024
Our speaker is Professor Malcolm Wagstaff who needs little introduction. Malcolm has long been interested in the fate of the Halifax Bomber that crashed in Cringleford during the second world war. Malcolm drew on maps and available data but the conclusion was that no one really knew where the bomber crashed.
September 17th 2024
Our speaker is Natasha Harlow.
